Guard Recovery (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)

Guard recovery means rebuilding your guard after it has been weakened, opened, or partially passed by the top player.

Beginner Translation

You were about to lose your guard, and you used movement and structure to get your legs back in front again.

What It Does

Guard recovery helps you stay safer on bottom, slow the pass, and return to a more useful position.

Where You See It

You see it after side-control pressure, during open-guard movement, and anytime the knees fight to get back inside.

Why It Matters

Beginners improve fast when they learn that losing one layer of defense is not the end if they can rebuild the next one.
