Studio standards
Inclusion at Sensei Sandy BJJ
I teach Jiu-Jitsu at a calm pace and expect students to respect one another. Any instructor who works with me follows the same standards. Students and guests must follow them in the studio and in messages about the academy.
Welcome
I teach youth and adults. I welcome students regardless of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, culture, language, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, body size, disability or neurodivergence, income, and martial-arts experience.
I use each student’s age and safety needs to choose a class.
Coaching standards
- I explain each drill and give you time to practice. I teach without hazing or humiliation.
- I use your name and pronouns. I respect your boundaries and teach from your starting point.
- I consider body size and experience when I choose training partners. I set the pace for each drill.
- I give each student instruction and feedback. I use the same advancement standards for students in the same program.
- I stop bullying and exclusion. I intervene when a student endangers a partner.
- I discuss requested modifications with you before you train.
Conduct rules
I prohibit discrimination, slurs, harassment, bullying, sexual misconduct, retaliation, and unsafe training in the studio and in messages about the academy.
I require students and guests to follow these rules:
- Follow my safety directions.
- Ask your partner before you raise the pace or intensity.
- Stop when a partner taps or asks to pause.
- Use respectful language and appropriate physical contact.
- Report unsafe conduct or harassment. Tell me about any access barrier.
Read the class rules for partner safety, respect, cleanliness, and health standards.
Access and accommodations
Contact me before your first class to discuss support you or your child needs. During Goal Mapping, tell me how you communicate and learn. Describe any limits involving movement or touch. Share medical precautions and past injuries that I need to account for during class.
You choose whether to share a diagnosis. I need enough detail to plan your instruction and protect you and your training partners.
I may shorten your first session or let you observe before you join. If you need another explanation, I can repeat the instruction and send notes after class. I use your needs to choose partners and set drill intensity. I may substitute a movement or recommend another class.
You may contact me before your visit for current information about the entrance, restroom, sensory conditions, or service animals. I will describe the studio and answer your questions.
Safety and class fit
You work in close contact with a partner during class. You carry weight and feel pressure during drills.
With the support we agree on, you must signal when you need to stop and follow my safety directions. Stop when a partner taps or sets a boundary.
I assess each requested modification before class. Ask me about medical support or one-to-one assistance before you rely on either service in a group session. I will tell you what I can provide.
I may recommend a private session or another class if I cannot teach the group without putting you or another student at risk. I may ask you to wait before joining a group until I understand your needs or arrange support.
Review the safety walkthrough before your first visit.
Reporting concerns
Report discrimination, harassment, bullying, retaliation, or an access barrier to me. You may tell me in person or contact me at the phone number or email address below. A parent or caregiver may report a concern for a minor.
I review the concern and speak with the people involved. I restrict details to people who need them and prohibit retaliation against anyone who files a good-faith report.
