Basics

Control (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)

Control means limiting your partner’s movement enough to stay safe, improve position, or attack with more confidence.

Beginner Translation

If you cannot keep the other person where you need them, the move usually falls apart.

What It Does

Control connects movement to results by helping you hold position, slow escapes, and create cleaner attacks.

Where You See It

You see control in grips, pins, hooks, posture breaks, passing, and nearly every stable position.

Why It Matters

Beginners improve faster once they stop chasing random movement and start asking how they are controlling the exchange first.
