Athlete Cross-Training pilot · Catskills supporting class
Keep Your Sport. Add One Mat Hour.
Jiu-jitsu gives youth and adult athletes another place to practice balance, contact, ground recovery and decision-making against controlled resistance. Your primary sport stays primary.
Placement begins September 8. Fall formats begin September 14. Schedule review is October 26.
Who this track serves
Athletes from soccer and basketball, running and cross-country, skiing and snowboarding, hiking and cycling, golf and racquet sports, and strength training can use one coached mat hour as complementary movement practice.
Youth and adult athletes are welcome to ask about fit.
What happens during class
Expect a coached warm-up, skill practice, and carefully paced resistance. Practice may include balance and base under contact, controlled falling and returning to the feet, hip/chest/knee positioning, frames, grips, posture, scaled live decision-making, and responsible training-load awareness—not a promise of competitive results.
Two low-gear entry days for athletes
Youth train No-Gi Monday and Wednesday, Gi Tuesday and Friday. Adults train No-Gi Monday and Wednesday, Gi Tuesday and Friday, plus Saturday No-Gi. Cross-training students can start once weekly in athletic clothes on Monday or Wednesday, while 12-week program students receive a complete Gi and No-Gi curriculum.
Youth and adult pathways
Most local beginners enter 12-week program. In-season athletes who can realistically attend about once weekly may qualify for the existing Athlete Cross-Training Track: 10 visits for $300 after first visit. Athletes expecting two or more weekly BJJ classes should move into 12-week program; the athlete option does not replace the main pathway.
Evidence and limitations
This is complementary movement practice, not medical care or a performance guarantee. Sensei Sandy does not claim that jiu-jitsu prevents injuries, makes athletes faster, or guarantees confidence, fitness, or competitive results. Read the parent evidence and limitations handout.
Cross-training FAQs
Do I need a rank rashguard?
No. Beginners do not need special equipment for a No-Gi first class. Clean fitted athletic clothing is enough.
Can I start with one class weekly?
Possibly. Start with a Free First Visit and first visit so Sandy can confirm the best class and pathway for your schedule.
