Is Jiu-Jitsu Good for My Child?
Many parents ask us this. Here is our honest answer in plain words. Then come see a class and decide for yourself.
Is jiu-jitsu good for kids?
Many families tell us their kids grow more confident after a few months. Kids learn to stay calm, try again, and respect their partners. Jiu-jitsu is a sport. It is not a cure. Each child gains something different. The best way to know is to watch a class.
My child has autism or ADHD. Will this work?
Many families ask this first. Here is what helps in our room. Every class follows the same steps. The coach shows one clear goal. The kids play a game to reach it. The coach can change the game to fit your child. The room stays calm and the coach stays close.
Research corner
In one 2025 study, children on the autism spectrum played games-based martial arts in a planned trial. The researchers saw gains.
What we do not know: This was one study. It did not test our school. It cannot say what your child will gain. (Source: Fu and Shi 2025, Frontiers in Psychology.)
Tell us about your child before the visit. We will plan with you.

My child struggles with coordination. Is this a fit?
Clumsy kids are welcome here. The games start simple. Your child goes at their own pace. No one is rushed.
Research corner
A 2026 review of studies looked at martial arts for children who struggle with movement. Many of the studies found gains.
What we do not know: The review covered many programs, not ours. Each child is different. (Source: Olhos and colleagues 2026, Children.)
What does a kids class look like?
Try a goal
The coach names one clear goal, like get free or stay on top.
Play the game
Your child and a partner move and try to reach the goal.
Make a change
The coach changes one rule. Your child tries again.
Classes are small and the coach guides every round. We teach grappling: holds, escapes, and control. Punching and kicking are not part of class.
