What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
It is a safe grappling martial art that looks like wrestling on soft mats. There is no punching or kicking. We focus on control, balance, and leverage.

Skills over "Play"
What Your Child Will Practice
We don't just "play." We build real skills that translate to confidence off the mat.
- Base: How to stand strong and not get tipped over easily.
- Connection: How to hold and control safely on the mat.
- Balance: Moving feet and hips so they stay steady.
- Distance: Knowing when to stay close and when to step back for safety.
- Kindness: Using skills for practice and sport, never for hurting.
6-Week Grand Slam Curriculum
We keep it simple: safety first, then control, then confidence. Every 6-week cycle rotates through these core skill blocks.
Designed for kids ages 5–12 and new teens in their first 6 weeks.
Students can start in any week. Topics loop and build so nothing is “too late” to join.
Week 1–2 • Safety
Standing Safety & Balance
- Building a strong base so they don’t get knocked over.
- Breaking basic grips on sleeves, hoodies, and backpacks.
- Staying calm during push-and-pull and protecting the center line.
- Turning to face, backing away to safe distance, finding an adult.
- Using a calm “verbal loop” before choosing to walk away.
Week 1–2 • Safety
Basic Ground Movement
- Hip movement drills, shrimping, and technical stand-ups.
- Bridging and rolling to get out from under, not stay flat.
- Soft breakfalls: backwards, sideways, and forward rolls.
- Floor-to-feet chains: frame, sit up, and stand back up safely.
Week 3–4 • Positions & Escapes
Positional Understanding
- Learning mount, side control, guard, back, and turtle as “jobs.”
- Top job: connect, stay balanced, and control the middle safely.
- Bottom job: use frames to protect, escape, or sweep.
- Simple routes: guard → mount → back with control, not speed.
Week 3–4 • Positions & Escapes
Defense & Escape Toolkit
- Hip escape, trap-and-roll, and elbow-knee escape chained together.
- Beginner escapes from mount, side, turtle, and back control.
- Using frames, angles, and distance instead of shoving or striking.
- Tapping early, then asking the coach what to fix next.
Week 5–6 • Sweeps & Sparring
Sweeps & Holds
- Scissor sweep, hip bump, and basic ankle sweeps from guard.
- Using connection and timing to off-balance bigger partners.
- Stable holds from mount and back while staying kind and in control.
- Intro to 1–2 safe submissions in slow, supervised drills only.
Week 5–6 • Sweeps & Sparring
Sparring & Belt Readiness
- Positional rounds with clear tap–talk–reset rules.
- Choosing the right speed, weight, and distance for each partner.
- Respect habits: bow, fist-bump, thank and help partners up.
- Bully-proof talk: strong voice, clear “no,” step back, walk away.
Note: During the Grand Slam, sparring for younger or brand-new students is light and position-focused. Submissions stay in slow, supervised drills to reinforce the tap rule, safety, and control.
